About the coffee
Perched at 1,850 meters in the misty hills of Nyabihu, Shyira is Rwanda’s highest coffee washing station — and one of its most remarkable. Since its founding in 2017, Shyira has stood as a symbol of elevation in every sense: altitude, quality, and community potential.
Under the care of Evariste Hagumimana, this small but mighty station produces coffees known for their bright acidity, floral aromatics, and complex fruit notes — reminiscent of a Kenyan cup, yet distinctly Rwandan in character. Cooler temperatures, rich volcanic soils, and high-altitude microclimates combine to create a truly exceptional terroir.
Thanks to Muraho’s seedling program and strong farmer support, production in this remote region has tripled in recent years — a powerful example of how investing in people and place leads to outstanding results.
Surrounded by waterfalls, the Gicice River, and the majestic volcanoes that shelter Rwanda’s mountain gorillas, Shyira is more than just a coffee station — it’s a summit of potential.
